HIGHLAND LAKES METAL DETECTING CLUB MINUTES
JANUARY 3, 2026
PRESENT/WELCOME:
Meeting called to order at 10:05 by Pres. Nyssa
Welcome to possible new members attending the meeting today.

NOTE: Annual renewal dues are $15 now.
OTHER OFFICER REPORTS:
No new reports given. Still need secretary and treasure positions to be filled.
OLD BUSINESS;
All decks cleared for the new year! Explanation given for new folks regarding raffle tickets/donations for monthly raffles and End of Year Xmas Raffle/ Potluck for big ticket items such as high end metal detectors, pinpointers, coin tumblers, razer diggers, ect. Monthly raffle donations can be anything that might be of interest… the fun is in winning whatever is donated!
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion ensued if we should have storytime after the presentation has been given and there are a few minutes left before the meeting ends. As an example, Tom regaled us with his Bear story when he and a friend of his were doing some dredging. It was a funny story and had a funny ending!
Also, Club Flyers were printed out to spark interest in people who might be curious about metal detecting.
LAY OF THE LAND BY LIDAR PRESENTATION:
Given by Nyssa and James
Use of LIDAR - for finding areas of habitation no longer visible to the naked eye. LIDAR can see through vegetation and note the outlines of where houses once stood and are no longer there. It can also point out unusual geological structures that might be of interest.
UPCOMING HUNTS/EVENTS:
Junk Hunt today at the Kingsland Community center field behind Mr Gatti’s
$5 to enter 1 junk = 1 point Most junk points gets the money pot 2nd place gets a Mercury dime.
Community outreach Easter Hunt( time to be announced)
Need junk jewelry/ coins/ ect for kids to find. Volunteers will be needed to help kids and staff the hunt. A child’s metal detector will be donated by Tom for a prize( other donations for kid prizes would be welcomed!)
Gypsy Jewel Birthday 3day hunt on Feb 20 in Edna, TX.
Port Aransas beach hunt AFTER college Spring Break.
TAMDC in Temple TX, April 25th, 2026.
Possible Boy Scout coin badge hunt – no details yet, still in planning stage, volunteers may be needed

Adjournment time: 11:20 am. Junk Hunt follows at noon.
Results for Junk Hunt: 9 people attended hunt and 500+ pc trash picked up weighing in at about 3 pounds. James and Nyssa won the money pot with the most pieces of trash and Gary Bunyard found the Black Nickle and won the Mercury dime. It was a fun time had by all!
